OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak has named Gordon Amini as General Counsel of the Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID). Amini held the same title when he previously worked at the Department in 1981.
“Gordon’s wealth of insurance industry and legal experience makes him a key asset to the Oklahoma Insurance Department,” said Doak. “His knowledge of the state statutes, workers’ compensation and the captive industry has been invaluable.”
Amini recently retired from Physician Liability Insurance Company (PLICO) after a nine-year tenure as Senior Vice President and General Counsel. He served as board member for the Oklahoma Association of Life Insurance Companies and the Oklahoma Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association in addition to State Vice President of the American Council of Life Insurance. Prior to working at PLICO, Amini was Senior Vice President and General Counsel for C.L. Frates and Company and First Life Assurance Company.
“I left OID in 1981 to accept employment with an Oklahoma life insurance company,” said Amini. “From then until 2014, I had a great 33-year career in the insurance industry; all due to my initial experiences at OID.”
“Oklahoma and its citizens will be well served having someone with Gordon’s background and expertise as General Counsel,” Doak said. “Our Legal Division is in great hands with Gordon at the helm and Julie Meaders as Deputy General Counsel. Julie’s regulatory experience is a huge benefit to the Department and the citizens of Oklahoma. We’re lucky to have both of these fine attorneys.”
Amini’s predecessor, Susan Dobbins, retired in March.
