OKLAHOMA CITY – During National Severe Weather Preparedness Week, March 3-9, Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak is emphasizing the need to develop a strong emergency plan and prepare a full home inventory.
“We are committed to lessening the devastating effects of severe weather in our state by helping Oklahomans prepare for the worst,” said Doak. “As Oklahomans, we know how to come together during times of crisis. Let’s work together to keep our families safe.”
The following are things you can do to protect yourself, your family and your property before severe weather:
“This week magnifies the necessity of being prepared when severe weather strikes,” said Doak. “If you live in Oklahoma, you know that it’s not a matter of if but a matter of when disaster is going to strike.”
National Severe Weather Preparedness Week comes just days before the 2nd Annual National Tornado Summit. The conference, scheduled March 10-12 at the Cox Convention Center, serves as a forum for national and state experts to exchange ideas and recommend new policies to improve emergency management. The goal of the Summit is to improve disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery in order to save lives and property. Also included this year is the Weather Fair on Sunday, March 10 from 1:00-6:00 pm. The free event is open to the public with activities for all ages.
